Family Systems Kiesha M. Watkins Liberty University COUN 502 Fall 2015 Family systems are described as everyone in the family playing a vital role in how the whole family functions. If any member of the family steps out of their role or changes their role, the process will be unbalanced. The balance of a family is called homeostasis or equilibrium and changes are made to ensure that the family stays in balance (Hinson 2015). For example, a family may set up a curfew time for their teenage children to come home after going out with their friends of 10:00pm. One teenager goes out with their friends and comes home at 9:55pm. The teenager returns home on time and meets their curfew. However, the next night the other†¦show more content†¦By communicating with one another it is shared what is on your own mind, and shows passion and respect for other family members well being as well (LaFortune 2015). From a neural perspective, in Carl Sibcys presentation on neurobiology, he discussed that the lymphatic system, which is on the right side of th e brain, regulates emotions and how to manage emotions. It also shows how parents calm a child down when they get upset (Sibcy 2015). These factors all occur in a secure base system which creates an association between environmental events and details if it is safe or dangerous. From a spiritual view, in a correspondent model, it is believed that if a child comes from a secure relationship it will evolve into their relationship with God. They understand God will be there for them when they need Him and in times of despair (Sibcy 2015). In contrast, in a compensatory model, if a child grows up in an insecure home, where the child was never introduced to God or God was never discussed, the child has a tendency to draw closer to God and develop a relationship that they never had with their parents. This effects a family from an emotional point of view in several ways (Sibcy 2015). One, if a child had parents that were positive, the child will have a clear view of themselves and can handle emotions well.
